How will the national league cooperate with the local structures players know and love? With the cards on the table, we asked Camille Lemanski of the PSP to help break down this introductory concept towards a new standard of the sport in the U.S.
//Could you please explain the PSP’s decision in creating a supporting structure for leagues?
I think it’s important to clarify the two different levels of programs out there. First, there is the Unified National & Regional RaceTo Format. This is a network of seven leagues around the United States who have teamed together to standardize the sport of paintball (check out the details here). Ultimately, these affiliate leagues will work together to provide a consistent experience for players nationwide – from the RaceTo format and PSP Rules to the touches that create an overall first class event experience such as scoreboards, webcasts and radar chronographs. The leagues will also be creating a universal player ranking in conjunction with the APPA that will work on both regional and national levels.
The second level of the program is the Supporting League Program. The Supporting League Program has been extended to local leagues that are running events on a smaller scale than the 7 regional leagues, and are targeting beginner players. While the PSP will be offering assistance, these leagues will also receive support from the Unified National & Regional RaceTo Format Affiliate League in their region. The PSP will also work directly with some leagues that fall into an area not currently covered on the regional level.
The PSP will be providing the regional affiliate leagues with the tools they need to put on quality tournaments. This includes everything from APPA tournament management software programming and ref clinics to scoreboards and possibly even webcasts.
In big picture talk, the local leagues, or Supporting Leagues, will introduce players to the sport of paintball and the RaceTo format. They will be a key piece in growing the grass roots level of our sport. As those teams develop, they will progress onto the regional level. After becoming more advanced, they will then move on to the PSP level. This structure works with sports at all levels – similar to the High School, College, Pro structure of more traditional sports – and is needed in the paintball industry. I get calls all of the time from players trying to get into the sport who are completely confused as to how to get started on the tournament side of things. They do not know where to start, what format to play, which division they belong to – it’s confusing and frustrating. The wrong experience could discourage a team from ever trying tournament paintball again. The same goes for field operators – they aren’t sure what size of fields to build, which bunker system to purchase, if they should invest in scoreboards or how to get more support from the industry when it comes to creating a local league. With this program, everyone will play the same format, enforce the same rules and use the same classification program – that is standardizing paintball within this system. How big this will get depends on how much people want to standardize paintball and how many of those see the benefit.
//How does the APPA classification system play into all of this?
The APPA is the most comprehensive, functional and substantial player information gathering system in our sport. Used nationwide by event operators at all levels, information collected and distributed by the APPA is considered the most accurate in paintball.
Over time, the Unified National & Regional RaceTo Format system will provide a national ranking for teams at every level across the United States, allowing a player to compare his/her team to those playing in other leagues on the other side of the country. As this system grows, the ability to rank teams will extend to ranking individual players. For the first time, the sport will have a true national ranking for both categories, enabling players to measure themselves against competitors. So if you played in your first event last weekend, you could log in online and compare yourself to a player competing in a different RaceTo league on the other side of the Nation. |

PS: Ist auf jedenfall vernüftig, wenn man mal die Augen weg von den Tittis nimmt und sich auf den Text konzentriert, steckt darin viel gutes. Ich denke die umsetzung wird nicht einfach, aber der Plan klingt gut. |
